ABSTRACT: THIS PAPER PRESENTS AN ALTERNATIVE EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE TO MEASURE THE DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT FOR OXYGEN. THE METHOD STATES THAT ONE COULD DETERMINE THE DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT FROM THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MASS OF CARBON REACTED, VOLUME OF CONSUMED OXYGEN AND THE RESULTING GAS VOLUME. ASSUMING THAT THE PRODUCED GAS EXPANDS IN A SPHERICAL FORM, THE GROWTH OF THE SPHERICAL AREA WITH TIME CAN BE INTERPRETED AS THE DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT. RESULTS FROM APPLYING THIS METHOD TO COMBUSTION DATA IN THE LITERATURE, SHOW THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO EVALUATE THE SOLID BURNING CONTROL MECHANISM.
