Abstract
Due to the pandemic caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus, the debate about indoor air quality has intensified. It is increasingly common to find environments with air conditioning systems, however, not everyone takes the necessary care with air quality, intensifying the spread of diseases. This concern increases when it comes to Health Care Establishments (EAS), as the exposure and risk of contamination of these environments are potentially high. Therefore, this article aims to study and optimize the air renewal in a dental office to ensure the safety of patients and professionals present in these environments. Therefore, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques were used to simulate two situations related to ventilation in EAS, the first is considered a single air inlet and the second is two air inlets. The OpenFoam computer program is used, specifically the “icoFoam” algorithm. Finally, the different situations are compared to determine which ventilation design is more suitable, concluding that both proposals reach speeds recommended by the standards, however, the proposal with two entrances is more adequate, as it minimizes the resulting speed, leaving the flow less turbulent and preventing the spread of the virus in the analyzed environment.
