OTIMIZAÇÃO DE UM CONCEITO DE TURBOCOMPRESSOR DE BAIXA TEMPERATURA PARA UM MOTOR DE COMBUSTÃO INTERNA EM GT-POWER

Abstract
Concepts aimed at increasing energy efficiency in internal combustion engines (ICE) by reducing the intake temperature have been widely studied by researchers, aimed, for example, at downsizing and even reducing specific emissions. The simulation 1-D commercial software has become an essential tool not only for research and development (R&D), but also for simulating of different innovative alternatives looking the best results in the optimization process. The present study brings the optimization of a model in GT-Power, using a technology called low temperature turbocharger (TCBT). This system consists of 3 turbines, a compressor and an intercooler, in addition to wastegate valves. This device works as a turbocharger basically, reusing the energy in the exhaust from combustion, comprising higher the air for cooling after in two stages, in the intercooler and then through a turbine called cold turbine (TF) which is also connected to the same shaft. The simulations were always done using both models, standard turbocharged and intercooled engine and antother using TCBT. The optimization was carried out seeking maximum power with both models, having as important limitations the detonation at high load and a minimum efficiency with the TCBT model. With this, it was possible to achieve an increase of 23 HP of axle power with the TCBT, while maintaining the same brake efficiency. Finally, a temperature reduction of approximately 21 K at the inlet was achieved, operating with a higher inlet pressure when compared to the original model (TC).
