Abstract
The present study analyzes the production of powders of aluminum alloy AA3107 through high energy ball milling (HEBM). An analysis of the manufacture of the alloyed powder by the MAE technique using the elemental powders of the constituents of the aforementioned alloy as raw material will be developed, the manufacture of the powder aims at its future use in processing via powder metallurgy (PM). The alloy elements were weighed according to their composition and then high-energy milling was employed for 30, 60 and 120 minute time periods to manufacture the alloy in the solid state. The fabricated alloy was characterized using particle size analysis (PTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The characterization of the material processed via MAE, confirmed that the increase in processing time implies a decrease in particle size, reaching values very close to those found in the starting powders. Only the sample manufactured with 120 minutes of high energy milling presented in its characterization the Al6(Mn,Fe) phase, a characteristic phase of the alloy under study.
