A PROPOSAL FOR THE INVENTORY MEASUREMENT OF MACHINING TOOLS BASED ON THE TOOL MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS

Lourival Boehs e Jacó Buss

Resumo: Industries are currently in search of productivity growth and technological change. In a world without inefficiency, productivity growth, as measured by productivity indices (an index of output divided by an index of total input usage), is synonymous with technical progress. In machining industries, this efficiency can be measured by an appropriate tool management, since a great deal of its costs is due to tools. Therefore their disposition is an important issue to be researched. This work aims to propose a model for the management of inventory of cutting tools which may to useful for industries with three critical characteristics: (1) high production volumes, (2) a wide range of parts and (3) a varied demand of parts. This study is focused in car parts suppliers which encounter most of these characteristics. In this study, we propose a broader perspective in tool management in which a field research has contributed largely in its development. Therefore we are sure that the solution to the problem will help other companies solve their inventory problems making them more competitive and developed machining companies.
