 Title:
EXPERIMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MONOTONIC AND CYCLIC BEHAVIOR OF PURE NIOBIUM FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Summary :
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK IS TO RAISE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES RELATED TO THE MONOTONIC AND CYCLIC BEHAVIOR OF PURE NIOBIUM. THE STUDY IS ENCLOSED IN THE BIOMECHANICS CONTEXT IN ORDER TO ANALYZE THE MATERIALS THAT ARE USED IN IMPLANT DEVICES FOR LIVING BEINGS. THE MONOTONIC TENSILE CURVES WERE RAISED AND CLASSICAL PROPERTIES SUCH AS YOUNG S MODULUS, YIELD STRENGTH AND ULTIMATE STRENGTH WERE DETERMINED. THE HARDENING PARAMETERS RELATED TO RAMBERG-OSGOOD LAW WERE IDENTIFIED AND WE ALSO VERIFIED THE INFLUENCE OF DEFORMATION RATES IN THE MONOTONIC BEHAVIOR. THE STRENGTH X LIFE CURVES (SXN DIAGRAM) WERE CONSTRUCTED FROM HIGH CYCLE FATIGUE TESTS, USING COMPLETE REVERSED TENSION AND COMPRESSION LOAD. SEVERAL ASPECTS OF LOW CYCLE FATIGUE TESTES WERE OBSERVED: HYSTERESIS LOOPS; SOFTENING AND HARDENING PROCESS AND HARDENING CYCLIC LAW. FINALLY, WE MADE COMPLEMENTARY ANALYSIS LIKE HARDNESS TESTS AND FRACTURE CHARACTERIZATION USING ELECTRONIC MICROSCOPY. THE RESULTS HAVE SHOWN THAT PURE NIOBIUM COULD BE A GOOD MATERIAL FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS. KEYWORDS: NIOBIUM, TENSION, FATIGUE, BIOMECHANICS
