ABSTRACT: THE SILICON PURIFICATION THROUGH ELECTRON BEAM MELTING (EBM) IS A VIABLE PROCESS, AS DEMONSTRATED IN PREVIOUS WORKS DONE BY THIS GROUP. IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN SOLAR GRADE SILICON (SI-GSO) STARTING WITH METALLURGICAL GRADE SILICON (SI-GM. BESIDES THAT, THIS PROCESS CAN ELIMINATE THE CHEMICAL PURIFICATION STEP CONTRIBUTING TO MINIMIZE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT. IN THIS WORK LEACHED SI-GM WITH 99,91% IN MASS WAS PURIFIED IN ELECTRON BEAM MELTING UNDER A VACUUM OF 10-3 PA. TI AND V THAT ARE HARMFUL TO THE EFFICIENCY OF THE SOLAR CELL WERE REMOVED, AS WELL THE REMOVAL OF B, FE, P, AL AND CA WERE GOOD. THE RESULTS DEMONSTRATE THAT PRACTICALLY THE WHOLE SAMPLE PRESENTS A PURITY AROUND 99,999% IN MASS OF SI. THE SAMPLES WERE REMELTED KEEPING PROCESSING PARAMETERS SUCH AS BEAM POWER AND BEAM INCIDENCE TIME ON THE MELT.
