BUCKLING OPTIMIZATION OF COMPOSITE PLATES UNDER UNCERTAIN LOADING CONDITIONS
 
Summary :
OPTIMAL ELASTIC BUCKLING LOADS OF COMPOSITE PLATES SUBJECTED TO UNCERTAIN LOADING CONDITIONS ARE CONSIDERED. THE APPLIED LOADS ARE NOT FIXED DURING THE OPTIMIZATION SEARCH, BEING ALLOWED TO VARY WITHIN A CERTAIN CLASS OF ADMISSIBLE LOADS. A MINIMAX FORMULATION IS USED AND THE BUCKLING LOADS ARE MAXIMIZED WITH RESPECT TO THE FIBER ANGLES AND MINIMIZED WITH RESPECT TO THE APPLICABLE LOADING PARAMETERS WHICH DESCRIBE THE SET OF ADMISSIBLE LOADS. THE PRESENT APPROACH HAS A MAJOR ADVANTAGE OF RENDERING THE THE OPTIMAL BUCKLING LOADS INSENSITIVE TO PERTURBATIONS IN THE APPLIED LOADS; THIS IS HIGHLY DESIRABLE IN APPLICATIONS WHERE THE LOADS ARE UNPREDICTABLE OR VARYING IN TIME.
