 Title:
NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF BUCKLE PROPAGATION OF HYDROSTATICALLY LOADED CYLINDRICAL SHELLS

Summary :
THE WORK PRESENTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO SIMULATE THE PROPAGATION OF BUCKLES IN DEEP WATER SUBMARINE PIPELINES. THE FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM IS BASED ON THE NONLINEAR THIN SHELL THEORY ASSUMING LARGE ROTATIONS, MATERIAL ELASTO-PLASTIC BEHAVIOUR UNDER SMALL STRAINS AND FOLLOWING FORCE LOADS. THE NUMERICAL SOLUTION IS OBTAINED THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A FINITE DIFFERENCE COMPUTER PROGRAM BASED ON THE DYNAMIC RELAXATION METHOD. IN THE POST-BUCKLING RANGE THE LOAD-DEFLECTION PATH IS DESCRIBED USING THE ARC-LENGTH CONTROL PROCEDURE. NUMERICAL RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH LABORATORY TESTS OF SMALL SCALE MODELS. KEYWORDS: BUCKLE PROPAGATION, SUBMARINE PIPELINES, DYNAMIC RELAXATION
