Title:

USE OF KANBAN ON VERTICAL TEXTILE PRODUCTION
Summary :
THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN STUDY, COVERS THE SPINNING, THE INDIGO DYING, THE WEAVING AND THE FINISHING OF FABRICS. THE PRODUCTION PROCESSES NECESSARY TO CUMPLY THESE ACTIONS USES DIFFERENT MACHINES WITH DIFFERENT CAPACITIES. EACH COMPANY MAKES A LARGE VARIETY OF DIFFERENT ARTICLES, WHICH GIVES AN ENORMOUS COMBINATION OF DIFFERENT FINAL PRODUCTS. THE TEXTILE COMPANIES UTILIZES THE VERTICALIZATION AS AN INSTRUMENT TO FIGHT BACK THIS SITUATION OF UNCERTAINTY, BUYING FIBERS AND SELLING FINISHED FABRICS. THE MAIN BENEFIT IS THE REDUCTION OF THE INFORMATION CYCLE AND AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE REDUCTION OF THE INVENTORY, THE TRANSPORTATION COSTS AND AN INCREASE IN THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCTS. TO DEAL WITH VERTICALIZATION, KANBAN SEAMS TO BE THE BEST SOLUCTION TO DECREASE COMPLEXITY AND UNCERTAINTY OF PRODUCTION PROGRAMMING IN ORDER TO FULFILL MARKET NEEDS, SINCE IT DECREASES INVENTORY, DECREASES REACTION TIME, AND BRINGS DECISION TO THE PLACE WHERE ACTION HAPPENS, THE PLANT GROUND. HOWEVER, TO ESTABLISH KANBAN OPERATION, A COMPANY NEEDS TO CHANGE RADICALLY ITS PARADIGMS. ALL EFFICIENCY MEASURES SHOULD BE THE SAME AND BASED ON CONSUMER SATISFACTION. NO MORE WORRIES ON MACHINE AND MEN DOWNTIME, BUT ON SALES ORDERS DELAYS. THIS PAPER REFLECTS A REAL CASE AT A BIG VERTICALIZED TEXTILE MILL IN CEAR? WE EXPLAIN THE CALCULATION OF THE NUMBER OF KANBANS NECESSARY TO SPEED-UP DELIVERIES TO ONE DAY AT MOST, USING A DISTORTION FACTOR, TO PROTECT CONFIDENTIAL DATA. RESULTS SHOW A GREAT DECREASE IN INVENTORY LEVELS AND A REDUCTION ON REACTION TIME TO SERVE CUSTOMER ORDERS.
