MODELAGEM DA ELEVAÇÃO DE ÓLEOS PESADOS ATRAVÉS DE BCP PELO MÉTODO DE ELEMENTOS FINITOS

Summary :
THE PROGRESSIVE CAVITY PUMPING (PCP) HAS BECOME AN ATTRACTIVE METHOD FOR ARTIFICIAL LIFT OF HEAVY OIL IN ONSHORE FIELDS. A DRAWBACK THAT EXISTS IN THE APPLICATION OF THAT METHOD IS THE PRESSURE LOSSES IN THE ANNULAR FLOW OF THE OIL THAT OCCURS BETWEEN THE PRODUCTION TUBING AND THE ROD STRING, WHICH TRANSMITS POWER DOWNHOLE TO THE PCP. THE ANALYTICAL TREATMENT OF THE SOLUTION OF THE HELICAL FLOW PROBLEM IS DISABLED DUE TO THE IRREGULAR FLOW DOMAIN (ROD UPSETS) AND TO THE NON NEWTONIAN BEHAVIOR OF THE OIL. THESE DIFFICULTIES REQUIRE THE USE OF NUMERICAL MODELING TO PREDICT THE VELOCITY AND THE PRESSURE FIELDS IN THE ANNULAR FLOW. THE SIMULATION OF THE LAMINAR, ISOTHERMAL AND STEADY STATE FLOW OF THE OIL WITH A POWER LAW BEHAVIOR, THROUGH THE CONCENTRIC ANNULAR SPACE WAS OBTAINED BY USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. A BIDIMENSIONAL MODEL WAS USED, WITH A MIXED FORMULATION OF VELOCITY AND PRESSURE AND THE NEWTON METHOD WITH AN INCREMENTAL LOADING SCHEME FOR THE SOLUTION OF THE SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE PRESSURE LOSSES IN THE ANNULAR SPACE ARE IMPORTANT TO THE DESIGN OF PCP SYSTEMS, WHERE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIAL IS OF FUNDAMENTAL IMPORTANCE.
