SOLAR PHOTOCATALYSIS: APPLICATIONS AND CURRENT TENDENCIES

Summary :
SOLAR PHOTOCATALYSIS: APPLICATIONS AND CURRENT TENDENCES ABSTRACT: THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATION AS RESULT, AT THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION PROMOTED BY THE HUMANITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHORTAGE OF DRINKABLE WATER, HAS BEEN CONSIDERED AS THE LARGEST RIVALRY THAT THE MODERN SOCIETY HAS TO FACE. THIS JUSTIFIES THE RESEARCHERS INTEREST IN THE SEARCH OF EFFICIENT METHODS AND OF LOW COST FOR THE TREATMENT BOTH WATER AND INDUSTRIAL AND DOMESTIC RESIDUES. IN THE LAST DECADE HAS BEEN INCREASING THE INTEREST ON THE OXIDATIVE ADVANCED PROCESSES (POA), AMONG THESE THE PHOTOCATALYTIC OXIDATION HAS BEEN DESERVING SPECIAL ATTENTION WHEN IS USED IN COMBINATION WITH THE SOLAR ENERGY. THE USE OF THE SOLAR ENERGY IN ENVIRONMENTAL DECONTAMINATION PROCESSES IS SEEN NOW AS A TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL TECHNOLOGY, BESIDES BEING CORRECT ECOLOGICALLY. THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF BRAZIL, FACILITATES THE USE OF MORE THAN 84% OF THE INCIDENT RADIATION, WITH A MEDIUM HEATSTROKE OF 2000 H/YEAR. THE SOLAR PHOTOCATALYSIS CAN BE USED IN THE TREATMENT OF WASTEWATERS OF INDUSTRIES AS FOR EXAMPLE: CELLULOSE, TEXTILE, CURTUM AND DISTILLERY; IN THE REDUCTION AND REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS AND IN THE ELIMINATION BACTERIA IN WATERS USED TO THE HUMAN CONSUMPTION KEYWORDS: PHOTOCATALYSIS, SOLAR ENERGY, WASTEWATER, DEGRADATION.
