ACTIVE CONTROL OF FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES
 
Summary :
TITLE: ACTIVE CONTROL OF FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES ABSTRACT: THE DYNAMIC MODELING AND THE ACTIVE CONTROL OF FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES ARE ANALYZED THROUGH THE ROOT-LOCUS METHOD. THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE DERIVATION OF SISO TRANSFER FUNCTIONS FOR THE CONTROL OF TWO CASE STUDIES. THE FIRST EXAMPLE CONSISTS OF THE ACTIVE CONTROL OF AN EULER-BERNOUILLE BEAM WITH DISCRETE SENSOR AND ACTUATOR. IN THIS CASE THE CONTROL IS ACHIEVED WITH ACCELERATION FEEDBACK AND A PROOF-MASS ACTUATOR. THE SECOND EXAMPLE CONSIST OF THE SAME TYPE OF STRUCTURE WITH DISTRIBUTED PIEZOELECTRIC SENSOR AND ACTUATOR. A PROPORTIONAL PLUS DERI-VATIVE CONTROL LAW IS INVESTIGATED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF STABILITY OF THE SYSTEM. KEY-WORDS: ACTIVE CONTROL, FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES, PIEZOELECTRIC ACTUADOR AND SENSOR.
