Abstract
The objective of this study is to apply the least-squares finite element method (LSFEM) to obtain the solution of the convection equation in permanent and transient regimes. The Crank-Nicolson method was used to discretize time, the Gaussian Quadrature - Legendre method for calculating integrals. For the solution of the algebraic system, the conjugated gradients method was used, because the matrix is symmetrical, sparse, and positive defined, characteristics resulting from the formulation via LSFEM. To obtain the results, a code in C language was implemented, when comparing the results in the steady and transient regimes the error obtained equal to 1.06%.
