Abstract
In the last decade, an advance in the steel industry has emerged, due to the need for innovative equipment solutions in order to reduce maintenance downtime and costs, weight and manufacturing time. The steels called AHSS - Advanced High Strength Steels, have been used in solutions mainly in the transport industry, such as in the manufacture of truck structures and agricultural equipment, reflecting on weight reduction and fuel economy. However, in order to achieve these results it is also necessary that the manufacturing process is able to deliver a product within specifications, that is, machines and tools with good performance. To this end, the present study investigated the behavior of two commercial Dormer high speed steel drills - A100 steam-tempered with standard edging and A002 coated with TiN and cross edging - when drilling the AHSS Strenx® 700 from SSAB. The objective was to choose the drill with best performance through the analysis of the circularity of the holes. By analyzing the circularity data, it was possible to reach that the A100 drill presented the best cost-benefit ratio.
