Abstract
The present study concerns the design of an apparatus and development of an optical method to evaluate the effect on the flow distribution of bubble nucleation under confined conditions inside microchannels composing. In the apparatus, the bubble nucleation is simulated by injecting air in a water flow inside the microchannels at different locations. Silicon carbide particles are dispersed in the water, and a laser used to light the flow in the microchannels. High-speed videos are obtained, and the images processed in an own-developed code to evaluate the effect of the bubble nucleation on the flow distribution in the heat sink and possible reverse flows. Two geometries for the microchannels will be tested, both having parallel microchannels with one of them presenting a restriction at their inlet. Both heat sinks are manufactured by 3D printing.
