Abstract
The current world scenario indicates that, in the future, renewable energies should completely replace fossil fuels and this trend has accelerated the development of new clean energy generation systems, such as bladeless wind turbines excited by the phenomenon of vortex induced vibrations. In the development of these new devices, it is of paramount importance to have a numerical calculation methodology to investigate the aeroelastic phenomenon that excites the system in order to guide the project and help in testing different configurations and studying the operating conditions. The present study is the first step to investigate the dynamics of the bladeless wind turbine movement, in which a methodology for calculating the flow around circular cylinders is developed to reproduce the vortex shedding phenomenon through the Ansys Fluent software. Since the numerical models are approximations of real problems, the main objective of this work is to evaluate if the numerical models chosen to solve this problem are adequate and if the tested methodology is capable of reproducing the phenomenon and can be extended in the future to problems of fluid structure interaction in vortex-induced vibrations. The results indicate that the developed numerical model can be practically applied in the study of bladeless wind turbines.
